Dressing well is an art, you can be casually dressed and still look well put together. Your entire outfit should flow as a complete work of art. It radiates who you are and what you are communicating to the world. Whether you are going for an interview, going to work, meeting new people or hanging with your peeps, show up beautifully for your life by dressing well every day.
When you leave your home, you want to look perfect, so pay special attention to the following small mistakes we all make from time to time;
1. Animal fur on clothes:
Those who are blessed with a fur baby or 2…or more, know exactly what I am talking about. We love our fur babies so much and really don’t mind fur on our clothes, as I say: “it’s doggy glitter.”
BUT people DO notice details and a single strand of hair can stand out, especially if it doesn’t match the colour of your clothing. Unfortunately some people have strong opinions about it, especially in a work environment and can lead to misguided perceptions about you. If you have pets, you should have a few “lint rollers,” in the car, in your bag, at the office and at home.
Don’t be the person who looks like you have rolled around on the carpet before going out into the big world.
2. Wearing clothes with minor damage:
These types of issues sneak up on you! Don’t ignore a missing button or a tiny rip, just don’t… It doesn’t say anything good about you, only that you have worn the garment far too many times. Small rips and tears can go from a tiny flaw to a deal breaker very quickly. Nothing lasts forever, definitely not our clothes.
This rule goes for that white t-shirt you love so much, as well. A t-shirt that is an “off white/beige” colour, doesn’t have the same look and feel as a crisp white t-shirt.
Donate any clothes or shoes that are still wearable to a local charity, it will mean so much to someone else and your Spirit will feel lighter.
3. Just iron that shirt:
We don’t live in the 1940’s anymore, not ALL our garments need to be ironed, but if you want to wear that elegant shirt, start ironing girl! Yes we all have busy schedules, if you really can’t or (don’t want to) iron, get a helper or take your clothes to a professional dry cleaner. Don’t ruin a perfect outfit with a wrinkled shirt.
4. Slow down on the accessories:
Why are Paris women seen as the most elegant and stylish women in the world? Because they keep it simple!
Accessories are essential, but over accessorizing will make your outfit look cheap and make you look desperate and tacky. The ideal accessory should be eye catching but also “season appropriate.”
French women love their scarves, because a scarf can pull an entire outfit together.
5. Wearing clothes that don’t fit you:
This goes for clothes that are too big AND too small! Even if the clothes feel comfortable, if they don’t fit, don’t wear them! Nothing can kill your style as quickly as an oversized shirt or too tight jeans.
Always keep in mind that not all clothes come from the same “clothing manufacturing house”, you might be a size 12 at one store but somewhere else a 10. Always try on the clothes you intend to buy, don’t go on just what the tag says.
6. Take care of your nails and makeup:
You can have a perfectly put together outfit, but if your nail polish is chipped or your nails are not looked after… well… it will be noticed.
With all the wonderful nail products out there and nail salons available to us, there really is no excuse!
If you are the type of person that couldn’t be bothered with removing your mascara and/or eyeliner at night, don’t give into temptation! People can notice “day old” makeup and you are really not saving that much time in the long run. It is also not good for the skin around your eyes or your eyes for that matter.
The way you dress presents a visual image and sends a message of who you are…
